Job Title: CT Technologist (CT Tech)Job Summary:

The CT Technologist is responsible for operating computed tomography (CT) scanners to produce detailed images of internal organs and tissues. These images help physicians diagnose a variety of medical conditions. The CT Tech ensures patient safety, comfort, and optimal image quality during imaging procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Preparation & Interaction:

  • Greet and prepare patients for CT scans, explaining the procedure to ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Assess patients’ medical history and ensure proper documentation of any relevant information, including allergies or contraindications to contrast media.
  • Position patients correctly on the CT table and provide guidance on breathing instructions during the scan.
  • Ensure patients are informed and relaxed throughout the procedure.

CT Imaging:

  • Operate and maintain the CT scanner to capture high-quality diagnostic images of the body, including the brain, chest, abdomen, and extremities.
  • Select appropriate imaging protocols based on the patient’s clinical needs and the area being scanned.
  • Administer contrast media, under physician guidance, when necessary to enhance the quality of the images.
  • Review and assess the quality of images before sending them to the radiologist for interpretation.
  • Collaborate with physicians to perform specialized imaging exams.

Patient Care & Safety:

  • Follow all safety protocols to minimize patient exposure to radiation, including the use of lead shields and proper technique.
  • Monitor patients during the procedure, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Regularly check and calibrate CT equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Troubleshoot and address minor technical issues with the CT scanner, coordinating with maintenance staff or technical support when needed.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital, departmental, and regulatory standards for patient care and imaging procedures.
  • Follow infection control procedures and maintain a clean, safe work environment.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and their families to explain procedures and address any concerns.

Continuing Education:

  • Stay updated on the latest developments in CT imaging technology, procedures, and best practices.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities and certifications to maintain professional competence.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completion of a radiologic technology program accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
  • Completion of a CT imaging program or additional CT training.

Certification & Licensure:

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) and/or CT (CT).
  • State licensure (if required by state law).

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a radiologic technologist or CT technologist is preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting (hospital or outpatient imaging center) is advantageous.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of CT imaging technology and techniques.
  • Excellent patient care skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to operate complex medical imaging equipment.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift or assist in moving patients as needed.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and handle the physical demands of the job.

Work Environment:

  • The job may involve working with patients who are critically ill or in emergency situations.
  • Depending on situations; shifts may include nights, weekends, or holidays.
